FAQ

  1. What type of gas system do I need and how much will it cost?

To get the best gas system to suit your individual vehicle and needs, you need to speak to us.
Not all systems suit all types of vehicles, so we need to talk to you to select the right option for you.
The costs of the different LPG gas systems vary, so it is important that you ring for more information.

  2. How long does it take for the LPG gas conversion to be completed?

We like to allow 2 days for most conversions. At PR Automotive, we don’t want to rush our LPG gas conversion jobs and we make sure that everything is very neat under the bonnet. We also do very thorough checks on the installation and operation of your LPG gas system at the end of the job.

  3. Increased driving distance

If you choose a dual fuel LPG conversion, you can drive your car much longer distances without refuelling. Many drivers of dual fuel cars notice that they can drive almost twice as many kilometres because they have two full fuel tanks instead of just one.

  4. How safe are LPG gas conversion vehicles?

At PR Automotive, we do thorough safety checks as a part of our installation process and our LPG GAS service process.

The systems that we fit all have safety features built in. For instance, the Injected systems will shut down and switch over to petrol when there is a problem detected with the gas system, such as a small leak.

LPG GAS has been used widely in Australia and overseas for many decades and technology has made its use, storage & handling incredibly safe. In Australia, the LPG Autogas industry is controlled by rigorous national standards and additional state regulations.

  5. Can I put my car onto straight LPG gas?

While this is possible, it is not recommended. If you have a problem with the LPG gas, then you won’t have petrol as an option.

  6. How much will I save in fuel costs if I convert my car to LPG gas?

This depends on your car, how many kilometres you drive per week and how you drive your car. But the average driver will save around $2000 per year (based on 1 tank of fuel per week). The initial investment in your conversion will take approximately 8 months to re-coup but this can vary.

  7. Is LPG GAS better than other fuels for the environment?

LPG (or Autogas) is a clean, green alternative to fuel your vehicle.

It produces among the lowest of life-cycle greenhouse gas emissions of all commercially available alternative fuels for your vehicle.

Approximate comparison of LPG gas to petrol
    - 10-15% lower Greenhose gas emissions (CO2) for LPG gas
    - 20% less ground level ozone for LPG (this produces smog and leads to greenhouse gas emissions)
    - LPG has 1/5 of the Air Toxics emissions of petrol.

  8. Will LPG GAS affect my Fuel consumption and vehicle’s performance?

This depends on what type of system you install in your vehicle. For Air Valve systems, you may lose some economy, but your vehicle will not experience any significant loss of power.

Keep in mind, that this slight increase in fuel consumption will be easily offset by the cheaper price of LPG gas to petrol.

With a Vapour Injection system, there will be no difference in power or performance.
With a Liquid Injection system, you will actually gain significant power from your vehicle as compared with petrol.

How often do I need gas services done after my car has been converted? The 1st gas service is done at 1000 kms and after that we recommend that they are done every 20,000 kms or at 12 months.

  9. Is LPG GAS harmful to my engine?

No, LPG GAS is a cleaner burning fuel than petrol and doesn’t leave any carbon deposits behind. This is better for your car’s engine.

We recommend that you start your vehicle on petrol in the morning to maintain lubrication in the engine. The injection systems do this automatically.

Just like petrol or diesel engines, care has to be taken with your cooling system and engine components to ensure the best performance and life for your engine.

We recommend that car services be maintained every 10,000 kms to make sure of this.

At PR Automotive, we can do your car service as well as your gas service. To arrange a service Call 8346 8870 or use our online contact form

  10. With the LPG gas tank in the boot, will I lose a lot of boot space?

If you don’t want to lose any boot space,in some cases a donut style tank may be fitted in the spare wheel well without loss of valuable space.
